Descriptive Information about the Record (click to expand) Provenance Deposited by the vicar and Parochial Church Council between October 1984 and December 1988.
-Introduction Woodham parish was created out of portions of Horsell and Addlestone, Chertsey. A site for the church was purchased by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 18 Oct 1893. The Church of All Saints', known as 'the Church in the Woods', was built between c1894 and 1907, to designs by WF Unsworth. The church was consecrated on 21 May 1902, when the chancel was still a temporary structure. On 5 April 1907, a faculty was obtained to 'complete the church in accordance with original design'.
By 1952, the Sheerwater Estate, a London County Council housing estate, had increased the population of the parish from 1000 to 6000, and a temporary church of St Michael's and All Angels was erected to serve the new parishioners. Efforts from c1962 to provide a permanent church were unsuccessful until between 1972 and 1976, when a scheme for the building of a shared Anglican-Methodist church on the site was realised. The new church was dedicated by the Bishop of Guildford and the Chairman of the London South West District of the Methodist Church on 10 April 1976.
