Descriptive Information about the Record (click to expand) Provenance Deposited by the Vicar and Parochial Church Council in February 1977.
-Introduction The church was built in 1840 under the provisions of the Church Building Act of 1831 and consecrated on 22 December 1840 and a Particular District, carved out of the parish of Thames Ditton, was assigned to it by the Bishop of Winchester on 30 January 1841. Baptisms and burials and churchings could then take place in the church, and after 24 August 1844, marriages could be solemnised. On 14 October, 1913 a portion of the District was assigned to the Consolidated Chapelry of St Andrew, Oxshott. That the Particular District of Claygate had become a New Parish under the Blandford Act of 1856 was not accepted in the High Court in 1924 (15/2(1) ) ; any uncertainty about its status as an ecclesiastical parish was removed in 1943 by the New Parishes Measure.
