Descriptive Information about the Record (click to expand) Provenance Deposited by Francis and Co, solicitors, per Cambridgeshire County Record Office, in December 1981.
-Introduction The Priory of St Margaret, a house for Benedictine nuns, in Sunninghill, Berks, is first recorded in 1199-1200 and may have been a royal foundation. The buildings and charters were burnt in 1462 and following the resignation of the last prioress in 1521 and the departure of the remaining two nuns, the priory site and possessions, including the manors of Broomhall and Windlesham and those of Winkfield and Chawridge, Berks, were acquired by St John's College, Cambridge, in 1522. Part of the Egham portion of the manor of Broomhall, called Knowle Grove, was sold to the Crown in 1544.
The 1613 terrier records the following blocks of land as belonging to the manor of Broomhall: the manor house and lands called Tottinghurst in Sunningwell; 8 acres in the common field in Old Windsor; Langhurst and Broomhall Inham in Chobham; Broomhall Mead and Broomhall Inham in Egham.
