Descriptive Information about the Record (click to expand) Provenance Deposited by the Vicar and Parochial Church Council in July 1986.
-Introduction The church at Bramley was a parochial chapelry within the parish of Shalford, possibly built before 1086. By the middle of the seventeenth century it was functioning as a separate civil parish and had its own parish officers. The Bishop of Winchester authorised a burial ground for the parish in 1676 (BRAM/17/1). By 1771 Bramley and Shalford were regarded as distinct parishes with their own boundaries and tithes (see G43/331). The ecclesiastical parish of Bramley was formally separated from that of Shalford in 1847 (Order in Council 27 Feb 1847), the incumbent being first described as vicar in 1868. In 1863 the parish of Grafham was created from the parishes of Dunsfold and Bramley (see GFM/-).
