    Introduction
St Paul's church was built and endowed by John Labouchere, of Broome Hall, Capel. The church was consecrated on 15 July 1857. On 10 December in the same year it was assigned a particular district (taken out of the parish of St Martin, Dorking), and was authorized to publish banns and solemnise marriages, baptisms and churchings. The churchyard was not consecrated, so there are no burial registers.

A school was established in 1859, on land across St Paul's Road given by Thomas Hope of Deepdene. This became a National School when enlarged in 1912. The Vicar was also trustee of an infant school in Falkland Road, built and endowed by Mrs Mary Labouchere between 1872 and 1875.
