HER 1096 - Nonsuch deer parks, circa 1538 - 1682
The Great and Little Parks of Nonsuch separated by the London Road, were enclosed by a close fence for deer by Henry VIII circa 1538. The former was enlarged and re-paled by the Earl of Worcester between 1606-9. The Great Park, also known as Worcester Park, was officially disenfranchised in 1663 as it was "already utterly dis-parked" and under the plough. The Little Park was conveyed by Charles II to Barbara Villiers (Baroness Nonsuch) in 1670 and disparked in 1682. Both parks were sold to separate purchasers in 1731. No trace of this pale survives, but the course is marked by a succession of roads, fences and boundary banks etc.
