HER 1259 - Probable medieval field system, Godstone
A quadrangular earthwork at Godstone, just north of and partly in the grounds of the rectory. The earthwork lies within and near the north-east corner of the remains of a much larger enclosure, also apparently quadrangular, and there are traces of an approach from the south-east angle of the latter to the south-east corner of the earthwork. These earthworks are the Lynchets of a medieval type field system (possibly that of Walkingstead deserted medieval village), partly overlaid by the ornamental gardens of the former Godstone Rectory (earth 19th century). It is approached from the south by a hollow way.
