HER 1268 - Starborough Castle: medieval fortified castle and moat
Scheduled Monument
Starborough Castle.
There are no remains of the Starborough Castle fortified by Lord Cobham in 1341, but there are remains of the moat, which is stone revetted and waterfilled and in good condition. The castle was dismantled by an order of Parliament dated 4 July 1648. The listed building is the Garden House (1754) which was built at least partly of material from the castle, and over pre-existing vaults.
