HER 12947 - FEATHERCOMBE

House. 1910 by Ernest Newton. Brown brick with red brick dressings and hipped plain-tiled roofs. L-shaped entrance range with courtyard in re-entrant angle, half-H shaped garden range on left hand return front. Two storeys with diagonal stacks to rear of ridge. Modillioned eaves cornice. Wood-framed, leaded casement fenestration with three windows on the first floor of each range, 3 windows below on each range, including flat roofed angle-bay windows to centre of each wing. Main entrance to right end of right hand wing in flanking lights and under open segmental porch on Ionic columns. Left hand return front:- Projecting wings to ends with one 4-light casement window on each floor, mullioned and transomed below. Three first floor windows across recessed centre range. Two windows to ground floor, one either side of central, double, half-glazed doors in flanking light and under semi-circular Ionic portico. PEVSNER: Buildings of England (1971) Surrey p.301. ED. K.
