HER 1328 - Outwood Post mill (1665)

The windmill at Outwood is said to be the second oldest in the country. The post-mill with its rotatable top is in use and is dated by deeds to 1665. The smock-mill alongside it is of later date. The post-mill on Outwood Common is believed to be the oldest working mill in England, built 300 years ago by Thomas Budgen. The mill has a brick round house, with a tarred weather boarded top, and is built up with a single trunk around which the whole mill chamber revolves. See also HER 2525. Listed Building Grade I.
