HER 13670 - Crowhurst Place, Crowhurst Road, Crowhurst
The History of the house, (listed grade I) and situated within a moat, goes back to the 15th century. The south wing was added in the 16th century with later editions added between 1912/15. Little is known of the historic design of the garden. The Rocque plan of 1768 showed an orchard to the south of the mansion, which is surrounded by parkland. By 1883 the design of the garden inside the moat was more formal and there were trees along the banks of the moat. In 1968 the garden was described in Gardener’s Chronicle as having lawns, a variety of shrubs, flowers and ornamental trees.
