HER 1661 - Hospital Of The Blessed Holy Trinity/Abbots Hospital, Guildford

Hospital of the Blessed Trinity, known as "Abbot's" was founded on 6 April 1619 by Archbishop Abbot. He endowed it with lands, the revenue to be divided between the support of 12 poor brothers and 8 poor sisters. Abbot's Hospital stands on the site of an old inn, “the White House”. It is constructed of red brick with some ribbed or moulded work. Dressings originally of chalk are nearly all of stone now. The whole building is of early 17th century date with no important structural alterations. To the north of the hospital building is a walled garden. In the east wall, picked out in blue brick, is the date "1621". The correct name of this establishment is the “Hospital of the Blessed Holy Trinity” but is known locally as “Abbot's Hospital”.
