HER 16816 - Oatlands Mere gardens, Weybridge
Oatlands Mere is now a small estate of houses which was built in the 1970's. The land on which this estate stands was part of the parkland surrounding the mansion of Oatlands House. The plot was Lot 3 in the sale of Oatlands Estate in 1846. On this plot of land was the gateway originally designed by Inigo Jones for Oatlands Palace and re-ercted by Earl of Lincoln some time around 1725. Plot was purchased in 1846 and a 'Tudor' style Victorian Villa built on the site. Several successive Chertsey and District Horticultural Shows were held in the grounds in the late 19th century. Information on the garden itself is not known.
