HER 1705 - Kiln, pits, and medieval pottery, Farnham
Rescue excavation undertaken by the Farnham Museum Society Archaeological Group in 1973, on the site of the New Almshouses, behind Andrew Windsor Almshouses (AD 1619) in Park Row off Castle Street, Farnham. A 13th –14th century medieval pottery kiln was investigated together with a number of pits which appeared to be contemporary with that feature. An entry in the Winchester Pipe Roll of 1244 indicates that Nicholas Potter may have then had kilns in the area of the Park Row kiln. The gardens to the south of the kilns also have evidence of kiln waste.
