HER 1884 - Banqueting house at Nonsuch Park (remains of)

Scheduled Monument
The site of Nonsuch banqueting Palace on the site of Cuddington deserted village was excavated in 1959-60 (see HER 1095 for Nonsuch Palace). The Banqueting House, 350yards to the south-west of the Palace was demolished by 1667. Its sub-rectangular retaining wall with corner bastions is extant. The wall probably enclosed a garden. Excavation in 1959-60 was for the Nonsuch Palace Excavation Committee. The site archive (notes, plans, photographs, negatives, slides, correspondence) is with the excavator; though there is a plan(s) in Guildford Museum. Finds in Guildford Museum.
