HER 23 - Anstiebury Camp Iron Age hillfort, Coldharbour
Scheduled Monument
Anstiebury Camp Triple-Vallate hillfort. Constructed within 2nd to 1st century BC, occupation was limited and defences possibly uncompleted. Thompson, who excavated the site in 1972 and 1973, tentatively argues for deliberate abandonment and dismantling of the defences as a result of Caesar's landings in 55 and 54 BC. Later reoccupied in the Roman period, see HER 2083.
