HER 2826 - Medieval town ditch and occupation
Excavation in July and August 1988 for SCC in advance of redevelopment in Farnham located the town ditch (see HER 2825, 2677, 2827) at SU 8402 4698. The ditch had been backfilled to its surviving top by the mid 13th century. Finds were all of early to mid 13th century date and included a stone mould for making lead tokens; pottery; roof tile including wasters; greensand pieces, both dressed and architectural fragments. This points to nearby minor industrial processes and to early stone buildings within the town. All records and finds are have been transferred to Farnham Museums.
