HER 2883 - Roman (1st-4th century) occupation: Friends’ Burial Ground, Staines
Excavation in 1976 at the Friends’ Burial Ground, Staines by LAMAS revealed a Romano British occupation site of late 1st/2nd century, abandoned 3rd century with some reoccupation in the 4th century. Possible pre-Flavian occupation phases, represented by ditches, post holes and gravel accumulation. The earliest pottery is early Flavain. Occupation was interrupted in the 3rd century by a sequence of flood deposits. Site was first excavated circa 1971. The finds are in Guildford Museum">Guildford Museum. The archive is deposited in Spelthorne Museum. The NMR library has relevant correspondence. (Part of Roman Staines; see HER 807. See also HER Nos. 2880, 2881, 2882, 2884, 2885, 2886.
