HER 2927 - Late Saxon Occupation: Petters Sports Field
Petters Sports Field. Pottery from fill of ditch, thought by the excavator to be medieval, is in fact late Saxon. The ditch itself could be Roman or post-Roman. For further information see HER 799, 2423, 2424, 2425 and 2926. Some of the finds are in the British Museum and some in Guildford Museum. Excavation by Spelthorne Archaeological Field Group in advance of redevelopment revealed a continuation of the multi period site at Petters Sports Field. Saxon pottery was found in the upper fill of a Romano-British ditch.
