HER 3067 - Cognans Farm: Late 15th century house on moated site
Cogman's Farm is a rare example of a base cruck house probably dating from the late 15th century, but with later additions and alterations, said to be a moated site. The only example of a base cruck in Surrey. The quality is consistent with manorial use (note Courtoak Lane adjacent), and it may be that this status transferred to the adjacent Old Hall Farm, dating from circa 1700. A possible moated enclosure is on the site of Old Hall Farm, formerly Cogman's Farm. A waterfilled north arm and a dry south arm of a presumably rectangular, moated site occupied by a timber framed farmhouse possibly of 16th century. This is marked on the OS map as Old Hall Farm. An irregular pond is marked at TQ 3255 4460, possibly the arm of a moat
