HER 3675 - Coxe's Lock Mill

Coxe's Lock Mill, established on the Wey Navigation circa 1777 as an iron mill. It was associated with Alexander Raby and Obadiah Wix Rogers and later with John Bunn. It was a silk mill and corn mill in the 1830s. Corn milling continued until the early 1980s and corn was regularly delivered by barge until the 1969, when the grain terminals were moved from London Docks to Tilbury. Though nothing is left of the old watermill there is a water turbine still working to supply power to the plant. The main office building is 18th century and the building housing the turbine is older. An attempt to revive the trade was made in the 1970s. The present late 19th century building was converted into apartments in 1989.
