HER 4723 - Earthen Bank, Saddleback Hill, Olddean Common
Across the north-west flank of the approach to the club-shaped end of the saddleback is a distinctive bank, 3metres broad over a distance of 50 metres at the crest of the summit following the contour, surviving amidst army pits and trenches. The perimeter on the south-east has a compact, iron-oxide indurated formation of sand and pebbles, outcropping where eroded. This may be natural, or may indicate the former existence of a palisade.
