HER 533 - West Horsley Place, medieval house and fishponds
West Horsley Place. Listed Building Grade I. A Medieval house, altered in the 16th century and refaced in the 17th and 18th century. It is a large private residence of considerable architectural interest. Reputed to have been the home of Sir Walter Raleigh, who is buried in the nearby churchyard. To the north is Lollesworth Wood are the remains of four dry fishponds which are probably contemporary with the medieval house.
