HER 5595 - Medieval moated manor house (later intergrated into Oatlands Palace)
The moated manor house dated to the 15th century and took the form of an irregular northwest-southeast aligned island containing substantial buildings, including a hall and chapel, surrounded by an up to 12m wide water-filled moat. Oatlands Palace (see HER 566) was subsequently built on the site, and retained some of the original structures, including the great hall and moat, into the new building.
