HER 569 - Oatlands Park Hotel, probably on site of pre 1500 mansion
Scheduled Monument
Oatlands Park Hotel is thought to occupy the site of 'Oatlands', a pre 1500 mansion of the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Bartholomew Reed, which was later adopted as the Hunting Lodge to the Royal Palace of Oatlands (HER 566). It was occupied by Henry VIII while the palace was being built in 1537/8 and by the Queen Henrietta Maria in 1660.
In 1716, the 7th Earl of Lincoln built a new house on the terrace, which was destroyed by fire in 1794. A third house was erected but this was partly pulled down and converted into Oatlands Park Hotel in 1858.
No evidence for the early house remains other than the cellars, which may be of 16th century date.
