HER 778 - "Pontes", Roman posting station, Staines
Pontes - A posting station may have existed at Staines, where the Roman road from London via Calleva (Silchester) to the south west of Britain, crossed the Thames. It appears that Pontes was either at or near Wraysbury, on the peninsular formed between the Colne River and the Thames, where Bath and Salisbury roads united at Runimede [sic], at the west end of Egham. But Camden was of opinion that the Pontes of Antonius itinerary was at Colnbrook. See HER 781 and 784 for Roman discoveries in the area.
