HER 8571 - STOKE MILL
Former Corn Mill, now store. 1879 by H. Moon of Godalming for Walter Paget. Red- brown brick with polychrome brick dressings and slate roof. Five-storey rectangular building of 3 by 6 bays, with three ridge vents on roof. Gable end to street:- two cambered-head casement windows in gable under yellow brick heads flank central glazed narrow hoist entrance with further window above. Either side of lower half of hoist entrance are round yellow brick arches on giant pier buttresses, one on each angle and one either side of centre. One cambered head casement window under each arch and two windows on each of four floors below in same positions with linking sill string course. Central narrower bay has door on each floor. Right and left hand return fronts:- Six bays articulated by giant pier buttresses under moulded caps at third floor level; ground floor projects under sill string to become flush with buttresses recessed panels above. 6 stilted-arch windows under round- arches on fourth floor under the eaves, six cambered-head windows on each floor below with sill bands linking. Rear gable end:- Projecting wooden gabled hoist to apex of main gable flanked by casements on either side. Cambered head casement windows in outer bays on each floor, narrow wooden and glazed doors on each floor in centre. Single storey turbine shed attached to left hand return front with remains of wheel and some machinery. Interior:- Cast iron column supports to each floor.
