Community Archaeology
Budding archaeologists across Surrey now have the opportunity to discover the history of their local areas with a new Community Archaeology Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project aims to increase interest and involvement in the archaeological heritage and historic environment of Surrey, by providing opportunities to participate in activities and events. Find out more by clicking on the links below, and get involved in discovering archaeology on your doorstep!
Artefact and archaeology workshops: Hands-on sessions using real ancient objects.
The Community Archaeologist is able to offer hands-on artefact and archaeology workshops for schools, youth groups, adult education classes and the general public. Click here for up-to-date information.

Working with archaeologists
Heritage Enterprise, the county archaeological unit, is part of Surrey Heritage based at the Surrey History Centre in Woking. Surrey Heritage offers both volunteering opportunities for interested members of the public, and work experience placements for Year 10/11 pupils, further and higher education level students. Loan boxes (Prehistoric, Roman, Tudor)
Packed with information and objects for use by school and community groups. Get hands-on with Surrey's past with the help of the Heritage Enterprise Archaeological Loan Boxes.
There are three available: Prehistoric, Roman, and Tudor.
Each box is packed with artefacts excavated from sites around the county. Each box aims to help you to understand more about daily life in the past. The Roman and Tudor boxes also come with a teacher's resource pack.
