A Neolithic monument that consists of two parallel banks with external ditches. Often these run straight, sometimes for several kilometres, but with the occasional change of axis. They are presumed to be of ceremonial function. The longest known cursus is the Dorset cursus, which runs for 8km (5 miles), with banks 91m apart. This has been dated to 2500 BC. These monuments are only found in southern and eastern England.
