Nissen Hut

A prefabricated semi-circular building with a steel frame covered in corrugated iron. They were used as accommodation for the armed forces and as emergency housing for bombed out civilians during the Second World War. They were also used for storage. They were originally designed by Major Peter Nissen of the Royal Engineers during World War I.

A Nissen Hut still stands in the grounds of Danetree School, West Ewell.
