Tithe Barn

A large barn used to store the tithe (a tenth of the profit of the annual produce of agriculture etc), which was paid by the tenants of ecclesiastical lands.

Many tithe barns survive in Surrey and have been converted into houses. A tithe barn at Parkside School, Stoke D’Abernon is converted into a gymnasium. It is a Listed Building as the original structure dates to the 16th century.
