Malden was a Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge and the Honorary Secretary of the Royal Historical Society.  He was a member of the Surrey Archaeological Society from 1890 and possessed a wide knowledge of history of the county.  He was the author of a history of Surrey and editor of the “Victoria County History of Surrey”.  He also edited a number of historical works not directly connected wit the county.
