The Borough of Guildford is centred on the county town of Guildford with its many historic buildings including the ancient castle and Abbot's Hospital, and the modern Cathedral and Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.

The Borough contains much fine countryside including the Hog's Back ridge running between Guildford and Farnham, heathland towards Pirbright in the north west and the wooded North Downs in the south east around Shere. The Borough is bisected by the A3 road, the historic route between London and Portsmouth.
