The large expanse of common land, which is skirted by the roads, slopes down gently to the south and there is a small pond at the southern end. Around the green is a scattering of buildings and especially on the north side a strong belt of deciduous trees, which define the green and give some sense of enclosure to the large open area. Forest Green is 2 miles north-west of Ockley where an east-west minor route makes a large dog-leg turn and is joined by lesser roads from north and south.
