Friday Street

Friday Street is about a mile south of the main A25 road, 4 miles south-west of Dorking. The tiny hamlet lies between wooded valley sides partly under the control of the National Trust and accessible to the public. The millpond and the adjoining slopes give the area its essential character, with the main group of buildings to the south. Local stone is much in evidence in the properties that are generally over 100 years old. The area was once a centre of the iron industry using the easily available water and timber to provide power for the furnaces.
