Betchets Green is one of the best known properties in Holmwood, having been the subject of a popular book, A Commoner’s Cottage by Frances Mountford.

The building, which was originally a small-holder’s dwelling, dates from the sixteenth century and is a three bay cottage with a small smoke bay at one end. A chimney is a later addition.
