Surrey's Sporting Life at the Woking Bikeathon

The Vintage women’s cycling event kicked off the Surrey’s Sporting Life re-enactments in style.

Three members of Surrey Heritage cheered on the cyclists of the Woking Bikeathon dressed in the famous knickerbockers suits of 1890s cycling fashion. It was fascinating to see the contrast between the period costumes and the modern day cycle gear.

The re-enactment of Lady Harberton’s daring stand for women’s right to wear rational dress was accompanied by a display of old fashioned bikes, including a penny-farthing.

The Bikeathon, which raises money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, was a huge success, with over 1,200 cyclists completing the circuit.
