Out, Loud and Proud receive a Heart of Equality Award

Out, Loud and Proud made their public debut at this year’s IDAHO event facilitated by Gay Surrey at County Hall, Kingston.

They gave a presentation to a large audience of people at the event which included other young people, representatives from a range of statutory and community organisations and the Chairman of Surrey County Council, Lavinia Sealy. The young women said “It was a scary experience but we felt elated afterwards that we were able to present our project successfully.”

After the speeches, Gay Surrey presented Heart of Equality Awards to deserving individuals and organisations. Out, Loud and Proud were shocked and thrilled to receive one for their contribution to promoting equality and inclusion in Surrey. Lucy said “I felt shocked, amazed, happy and proud when our name was called”. Sian commented that “I feel now that people have taken notice of our work and are taking us seriously”. Cassie said that “I think it was really nice for us to receive an award in recognition for all our hard work. It shows that people outside of our project are now actually aware of and value and appreciate what we are doing.”
