Alice shows her endurance as an advertising dream. She was used throughout the 1950s and 1960s by Guinness and Pilkingtons Glass but she and the Wonderland characters have also helped promote biscuits, writing papers, book fairs and cars.

This advertisement for Sanforized Shrunk Fabric, plays on the shrinking of Alice through Lewis Carroll’s inability to calculate, with the slogan ‘Mathematicians are Human’.

I recently bought at Oxfam a paperback version of Hunting of the Snark, pub 1976 (centenery of poem) illus. by John Minnion a Guildfordian by birth. It is privately published by him. Contains caricatures of well known 70’s figures as the hunters of the Snark (e.g.Ted Moult, Rick Wakeman).
