Byfleet Heritage Society: Brooklands’ Hawker and Vickers factory promotion models.

“In the 20th century, Byfleet and this corner of Surrey were transformed by the arrival of the Vickers and Hawker factories at Brooklands, employing over 14,000 people at its peak, and attracting people from all over the country.

It also attracted enemy bombers during the war, of course.

Our object is a set of promotional models of aircraft made at Brooklands – the Viscount, VC10 and BAC 1-11.

Although the factory has long since closed, very many local families still have strong connections to, and memories of, it. Indeed many would have worked on the aircraft represented.”
