Land and property

Many of the documents held at Surrey History Centre relate to land and property. These range from deeds to maps, with many documents describing who owned what property.

Specialist terms are often used to describe these land and property transactions. Use this section to find out more about what they mean.

Occasionally land and property documents throw up a surprisingly complex set of terminology and a great source for unraveling these is Jacob’s Law Dictionary. Read more about this Dictionary in the Surrey History Centre Marvel.
